Thanks to lobbyists and a passive electorate, the U.S. has now evolved into -- like China -- an autocracy masquerading as a democracy. Thanks to the Internet and debt-funded consumerism, Americans' expectations are eclipsing their government's ability to deliver. So it is with China, which long has used censorship and currency manipulation to stir patriotism and retain state control. Increasingly, so do we.
