An IDG spokesperson says the following:
"IDG Communications is exploring the creation of a media property covering emerging technologies and the Internet economy, potentially using IDG's Industry Standard brand. Nothing more to say at this point."
You probably know the history of this title; click here if you don't.
The Standard succeeded editorially last time because, in great measure, there were no bloggers or social networks to keep industry people informed of trends and gossip. Now there are. IDG could try to out-Arrington Mike Arrington, but there's not enough money in that to be worth it. Except perhaps if IDG decided to showcase its portfolio companies in IDG Ventures in some sort of custom-pub hybrid. Now THAT would be worth it.
