"Freshmen, More Wood!"

If you've never seen a bonfire inside UC Berkeley's Greek Theatre before, you've probably never attended a pep rally for the much beloved Bears, who today face Stanford in their annual football grudge match. The two-hour event featured dancing, singing, comedy and storytelling from students, faculty and administrators. We chanted. We screamed. We did "The Wave." Because it was so cold last night, our favorite chant became "Freshmen, More Wood! Freshmen, More Wood!" Each time we chanted, pairs of lowly freshmen scampered out with fresh wooden pallets and on a crowd count of one-two-three, tossed them on the fire.

It's fun here in California.
